The French Do It Better

Champagne!  Brie!  French fries!  French wine, particularly pinot noir!  French bread!  French seams on my jeans!  Escargot!  Wait, that’s kind of gross.  If you’ve had it, then you really understand the conflict of how gross it is, and how much butter it’s drowned in.  It’s tough.

But the champion of all things Française, the French Toast.

I have a tendency to be (unnecessarily) purist about things, so I intentionally lock myself out of The Box sometimes.  Original French toast?  Delish.  But… caramel apple French toast with creme fraiche and cinnamon bacon?  Buckle your seatbelts, people, you’re going to want to leap out of your chairs and into your computer screen on this ride.

First, I sliced up some yummy caramel apple bread from my local Great Harvest Bakery.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

I made a nice little bath of eggs, milk, and salt and got everyone into the pool.  I put the cinnamon bacon in the oven (yes, the oven – 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes) and started to fry up my breads.

With a fair amount of patience (noseplugs help), everything eventually turned golden and was ready for me to eat it.  Onto my plate it went, where it was topped with a little creme fraiche bomb (HIS idea.  I know!).

Seriously, best breakfast ever.  After I finish this, I just might have to go find some fabric worthy of my new old sewing machine.  Behold!
